The Best of Cuba and Key West all in one location

El Meson de Pepe' Restaurant and Bar.
Sitting right at the entrance to Mallory Square on the west end of Key West sits a wonderful Cuban restaurant and bar with indoor and outdoor service for both food and drink. If the heat of the day is just to much you can enjoy a meal, appetizer or a drink inside where the air conditioned restaurant will cool you down. But I must confess the outside seating is so wonderful. There is a covered eating area that lets you get out of the sun and still enjoy the tropical breeze.
We discovered El Meson de Pepe's while walking to Mallory Square to watch the sunset one evening. We stopped to pick up a cocktails at the outside bar and almost didn't leave.
It's just is a place you want to be. We did eventually make it to the sunset and vowed we had to come back. The next day we made our way back to El Meson de Pepe's for a late lunch which consisted of appetizer's. Fortunately the table next to us was being served and they had ordered the Plantain Nachos.
I already knew that I wanted to order the Conch Fritters and something else, well that something else had to be the Plantain Nachos.
So we ordered and the waiter asked if he could recommend a beer that would go good with the meal and he suggested the Cerveza Hatuey.
It was a perfect match for the blend of deep fried plantains, pulled pork, melted cheese and the salsa Nachos. The beer selection also paired well with the Conch Fritters that were the best I had in key west. I would say the beer is in a Vienna style.
El Meson de Pepe' Restaurant and Bar has a huge menu to choose from. I don't see why anyone would have a hard time enjoying a meal there. You may have a hard time deciding because there are so many choices on the menu.
In the late afternoon and evening there is live music out on a stage that they have across from the outdoor bar and it rely gets going in the evening. Dancing and great times for sure. remember you are only 90 miles from Cuba!
If you are in Key Wests and want some Cuban hospitality and flare you have to go!
